AS, or Ankylosing Spondylitis is a painful condition that affects the spine. The disease normally starts in the lower back of the person and works its way up the spine, causing back stiffness. The joints within the spine become inflamed which results in the pain and stiffness the person experiences. • Exercise plays a major role in helping to reduce stiffness symptoms associated with AS. Knowing which exercises are most beneficial will be of special help in controlling your condition which include the following: • Deep breathing exercises are extremely helpful to improve and maintain lung capacity • Exercises with an exercise ball at least 65 centimeters in diameter is also good to help strengthen your core muscles. Hold the position for 5-10 seconds. Breath in and then turn back to your starting position. Repeat to the opposite side. The right exercises will make a difference and provide relief for the symptoms which are suffered with AS. For AS patients that are in latter stages of the disease, proper exercises will also help to prevent complications.
